Unit 5: 1.2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4

I have to admit that I’ve found this project quite difficult as I have missed classes due to injury and illness and therefore felt that I had fallen behind and that everyone knew what they were doing when I hadn’t even started.

Once I felt back on track, I had a few weeks left to complete my project and I’m very grateful to my classmates for encouraging and helping me.

Before Christmas, we were asked to write down three objects on pieces of paper. They were placed into a bag and each of us had to draw three of those objects at random. This would determine which props we needed to bring to class to photograph. My ites were:

  • Jewellery
  • Gloves
  • Gin

I spent  time looking at images advertising the above products to see if there was anything I could attempt to recreate in the studio. The first one that struck me was a photograph of a bracelet, pictured here:

I decided that I’d like to recreate it with a bracelet that I had recently bought.

The first problem I had was being able to see the picture that I was taking. As soon as the camera focused, the screen went black so I had no idea whether the models were still looking at the camera. We figured out that there was a setting on my camera that needed to be changed – switching Live View off – and once that was done, things progressed.

I had a few attempts at setting up this shot; first experimenting in colour and then changing my camera setting to black and white. I wasn’t completely happy with the pictures and did them quite quickly as I was concerned about my classmates who were uncomfortable crouching down in that position and holding up an arm! These are a selection of those photographs:
